Rio Grande Rafting .
The Rio Grande, the largest river in Jamaica, pours down from the John Crow Mountains through the deep and beautiful valley of real virgin forest and banana plantations. Originally the long bamboo rafts were built in the old days to carry bananas and other crops from the Rio Grande Valley downstream to the coast. Errol Flynn initiated rafting with visitors in the 1950's. The raft captain will carry two passengers and a small child. The six mile journey through some outstanding scenery of lush green from Grant's Level to Rafter's Rest at St Margaret's Bay takes about three hours. The captain will stop, if you wish to swim, take pictures or buy cold drinks or local food from the vendors along the river. At full moon a midnight trip can be arranged. For a hot and sunny day take a hat or umbrella. Don't expect wild river rafting. This is a trip to relax and absorb nature pure.
